About Colorado Bend State Park Images

This gallery contains images from Colorado Bend State Park, located near Bend on the Colorado River in San Saba County in the Edwards Plateau Woodland region of the Texas Hill Country

Gorman Falls, a 60 foot high waterfall, is located on the western bank of the Colorado River, approximately 10 miles above Lake Buchanan, and includes a portion of Gorman Creek, which feeds Gorman Falls. Beautiful travertine formations and lush vegetation occupy the area below the falls. Small, fragile travertine dams have formed quiet pools of clear water that support a variety of aquatic communities, including one of the purest strains of the Texas state fish, the Guadalupe bass. Spicewood Springs Creek flows through a deep canyon on the southern end of the park, emptying into the Colorado River.

Colorado Bend State Park is made up of the former Gorman and Lemons ranches above Lake Buchanan. The park site was purchased partly in 1984, with the remainder acquired in 1987; the park was subsequently opened in 1987.
